MOI Qatar Traffic Violations Check

If you have been living in Qatar for some time, it is likely that you have already obtained the necessary documents to access various services and acquire certain goods, including a car, for which you will need a driver's license.

However, driving a car in Qatar implies following the laws that govern this action, otherwise you may be punished with one or more fines depending on the traffic offences you have committed.

If this is your case you should know that you can check these traffic fines online. Don't know how to do it? don't worry, in this post you will learn how to check traffic violations in Qatar.

Qatar's traffic violation point system

In order to regulate fines related to traffic violations, the Qatari Traffic Department has implemented a method called the demerit point system.

This way, the persons in charge of issuing the fine will have a reference that will allow them to apply the fine correctly according to the traffic offence committed by the driver.

As the person repeatedly commits actions that violate the Qatari traffic laws, demerit points will be added to the driver's license.

In a situation where a driver runs a red light, he will receive a fine of 6 thousand QR and 7 points will be added to his driving license for this offence.

If within a period of time the number of demerit points accumulated by a driver reaches the permitted level or exceeds it, his driving license will be suspended or cancelled in case he has committed the same offence several times.

In case the driver's license is cancelled when the number of points is reached, it will have to apply for a new driving test, although it will have to wait exactly one year after the date of cancellation of the license to be able to take it.

Below is a table showing the number of points accumulated by the driver after committing one or more traffic offences, as well as a description of the sanction applied to the driver for reaching the established number of points once or more times.

It should be noted that demerit points may be automatically removed in cases where the driver's license has been cancelled or if the driver avoids committing another traffic violation within a one-year period.

Qatari traffic violations related to speeding

In Qatar, penalties for exceeding the speed limit while driving are covered under Article 53 of the Qatari Traffic Law and are based on the number of kilometers the driver has exceeded within a specified stretch or route.

This is why fines for speeding are between 500 and 1,000 QR. In this regard, motorbike drivers who have exceeded the speed limit on non-permitted stretches will have one point added to their license, while car drivers who have committed the same offence one or more times will have two, three or four points added to their license, depending on the case.

Qatar traffic violations related to driving in Qatar

According to Qatari traffic laws, drivers must drive their vehicle while keeping to the designated lane.

In addition, a driver may not drive on a portion of the road where there is oncoming traffic.

Doing so is a serious offence and is punishable by a fine of 6 thousand QR and 6 demerit points added to the driver's license.

Qatari traffic violations related to parking
